Madurai: Housing schemes for the city of Madurai have been sanctioned approval by the Tamil Nadu State Government. An integrated satellite township and construction of 1,500 flats in Sholinganallur will add a feather to the cap of Madurai’s real estate. Rs. 120 crore has been set aside to support the construction of the satellite township which will be spread across 587 acres of land. The township will come up near Madurai airport road. The nearby localities of the township like Thoppur and Ucchapati will get better infrastructure services with the township taking shape.The satellite township will comprise of almost 19,500 plots. Out of this almost 14,000 plots will reserved for the EWS (economically weaker sections). 2,500 will be for the middle income groups whereas 750 plots will be reserved for higher income groups. The funds from the Tamil Nadu Housing Board will fuel the completion of the township project in Madurai. The township project found grounds in the April budget session of the State.The construction of the satellite township will happen in phases. The first phase would witness construction of bridges and supply of basic amenities like drinking water, electricity supply, etc.On the other hand the second housing scheme, i.e. construction of 1,500 flats in Sholinganallur, has been allotted funds amounting to Rs. 380 crore.
