GHMC to Take Action Against Property Tax Defaulters

hyderabad-property-taxHyderabad: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is seeking higher tax revenue from property tax payers in the city. GHMC has started issuing Red notices to the property tax defaulters in the city. The red notices have been issued by the GHMC from the first week of October. The GHMC is aiming to collect property tax of Rs 1,000 crore by the end of the current fiscal year.GHMC has collected about Rs. 382 crore till now though the property taxes, the red notices would help GHMC to collect property tax from the defaulters as early as possible. The red notices are sent by the corporation if the defaulter is not paying property tax from more than three years. This year deputy municipal commissioners (DMCs) from various municipal circles have been asked to provide a list of such defaulters which would be given notices in the second half of the current fiscal year.The DMCs of the respective municipal corporation have started issuing notices to the top defaulters from their jurisdiction. The whole process of sending notices to defaulters will be completed in a month’s period which will also include general demand notices for the regular property owners in the city.Usually 70 per cent of the Hyderabad property tax collections come in the last three months of the financial year. This year about six lakh property owners had paid tax dues amounting Rs 382 crore till October 18 2013.
