Hubli: A new system introduced by the Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) will make it possible for the property owners to settle their tax dues at the earliest. This initiative has been taken in the interest of the tax payers who due to shortage of time find it difficult to pay the dues. According to the move, a Point Of Sale (POS) mechanism has been set up wherein tax collectors will personally visit the homes of the defaulters. A notice will be issued to the property owners belonging to the specified ward asking them for and early settlement.If the defaulter is ready to settle the tax dues on the spot then that will be made feasible with the help of the POS machines. A receipt will be given as an acknowledgement to the transaction. The bill collectors will move from home-to-home sending out notices and recovering the dues with POS. This process will come into force from the 15th of October 2013. It will first become operational in two wards of Hubli (Ward 41 &67) and 1 ward of Dharwad (Ward 13).The mechanism has been launched in these 3 wards on testing grounds. The primary reason being the implementation of this system is for the better recovery of property tax dues and greater revenue generation for the Corporation. Also the time saving aspect for the tax payers is its biggest plus point.The property registration process in Karnataka went through significant changes.
