Delhi: In a survey conducted by Cushman & Wakefield, a demand for almost 2.8 million homes is expected to develop by 2017 in key cities of India. Top cosmopolitan cities like Mumbai, Bangalore, Pune, Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata and Ahmedabad will be among the largest demand creators for real estate in India.However the supply will be sluggish owing to the economic slowdown. The governing laws and regulations are still not favorable enough to cater to the ever increasing demand.The overall demand for housing spaces is expected to rise to 12 million in by 2017. The gradual yet steady rise in the population has led to an uninterrupted rise in the demand for residential spaces.The demand for housing from the Metro cities will constitute almost 23 percent of the total demand. Coming down to the micro level, residential properties falling in the middle-income and high-income group will account for 2.5 million units of housing space demand in India.The demand for LIG housing space will comprise of only 3, 00, 000 units across the key cities.Demand for around 1.4 million units will be generated in the MIG-HIG markets across the Metropolitan cities of India.The higher incomes and better employment opportunities will sustain this trend for the next five years. Despite of the saturation in building spaces, the demand trend continues to be on an upscale.
