Mylapore to get Median Walkways for Congestion Issues

Mylapore-chennaiChennai: Chennai Corporation and Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP) organized a public consultation meeting on Monday. The corporation discussed various problems regarding the congestion in the city. Corporation has placed a proposal to construct median walkway along a Central Promenade on Luz Church Road along with a proposal to allow only one way traffic on North Mada Street and South Mada Street.Traffic and road experts are saying that if proposals made in the meeting are implemented, it will reduce traffic bottlenecks in the Mylapore. Mylapore is the famous religious and commercial destination in the Chennai city which attracts thousands of people everyday eventually leading to traffic congestions in the area.Luz Church Road may get three footpaths according to the proposals made in the meeting. These footpaths will be established one each on either side of the road and one will be constructed at Central Promenade.Advait Mahesh Jani, ITDP coordinator said that R K Mutt road and East Mada road will remain two-way and no alterations will be done on the current situation. The corporation is also planning on installing restricting motorists. The Parking space in the Mylapore can be reduced by about 15-20 per cent if the new plan is introduced for the infrastructure development in the city.He also added that the Mylapore stretches are still underutilized and can be utilized if the proper planning is made to reduce congestion by creating better footpaths and walkways.  Mylapore areas also need a better traffic management system to reduce the congestion.Proposals to create median walkway and footpaths in the area were presented in front of citizens who participated in the meeting.
