Mumbai to Come up with Maximum Number of Green Buildings

green-homes1Mumbai where maximum development takes place will be witnessing an upsurge of eco-friendly buildings. According to a latest survey, the city has maximum number of green buildings under construction in India. The financial capital has 60% more green buildings in pipeline followed by the national capital, Delhi which is on second number, Bangalore on third, fourth comes Pune, Hyderabad and Chennai on fifth and sixth position respectively. The list was released by Indian Green Building Council (IGBC). IGBC is actively involved in promoting Green building concept in our country.According to IGBC, Mumbai has 319 registered projects that fall under green building category. These projects are spread over 229 million sq ft area. Delhi is listed second with 199 projects which is followed by Bangalore with 198 projects and Pune with 197.The IGBC report further added that there are more than 2,111 registered green building projects that will be coming up in India. These projects would cover 1.54 billion sq ft. With this India will be counted among the top 5 countries on the world green map.According to the principal council of CII, construction of green buildings is indeed a costly affair. The construction cost of these buildings, earlier were 15 to 18% more than the regular buildings. The cost has now come down to 3 to 5%. In green building concept minimum quantity of glass is used. Only 7 to 8% of glass is insisted to be used. Builders are asked to use high performance glass, so that it reflects less heat.Green building includes use of less water, conservation of natural resources and energy efficiency.
