Ahmedabad: Urban local bodies across Gujarat are requesting faster turn-key systems and construction technologies to build affordable homes in large numbers within the period of five years. Recently Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) hosted a seminar that was held for new construction technology for affordable homes. The seminar was organized at Ahmedabad Management Association (AMA). AMC said that they are planning to come –up with 10,000 affordable homes. The main purpose of the Seminar was to make the developers and government officials familiar with the whole range of technologies for affordable construction.Not only the Lower Income Group (LIG) or the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) of the society will be benefited with low-cost housing schemes but even the Middle Income Group will be availed with affordable homes. According to the urban development department officials, few civic bodies were planning to launch affordable homes for Middle Income Groups.The Municipal Commissioner asserted that AMC was planning to build 3000 additional homes for LIG and for EWS they will be coming up with 7000 houses in next few years. The Municipal Commissioner, in a press release also said that AMC will be constructing homes for the middle income category.He further added that the housing colony will not be like the typical EWS one but it would incorporate some amenities for the convenience of the dwellers. The housing colony will consist of parks, children play area and also verdant green belts.AMC is the first civic body in the country which has adopted MASCON technology for the construction of EWS homes.
