The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation is going to start survey of properties afresh within its limits to recover the property tax from September 2. Low collection of LBT and diminishing finances has compelled the civic body to initiate the survey so that many new properties or construction made recently can be taxed. Those that have changed the mode of usage i.e. residential to commercial purpose will also be considered under the tax radar.Taking on illegal structures, the municipal commissioner who is known to be demolition man is planning to go a little soft by only charging double property tax from the owners. Instead of demolition drives, around 2900 new illegal structures had arrived in the town. The owners have been asked to register as soon as possible with PCMC. Otherwise all the unlawful constructions (that came after March 2012) will be imposed twice the actual property tax. However the legalization is out of scope even if the properties get registered. The civic body can take necessary action including demolishing the building anytime they want.
