Kochi: The authorities of Smartcity have rescheduled the deadline of the construction of its First IT building by eight months. According to the earlier plan, construction was set to complete in the time period of 24 months which would start from September. But now the authorities are planning to complete the construction by December, 2014.With an intention to finish the development, earlier than the scheduled date, the project promoter, Tecom have decided to offer the tenders for piling, construction, landscaping and other development activities to different firms so that the work load will be distributed and at the same time, the construction would progress on all levels.A top official said that they have decided to accelerate the work. Completing the work before the preset time is a difficult job and they hope to accomplish the task. Within two months, the land development work will be completed. The company has shortlisted three firms that would take up piling work. Officials of Tecom are also discussing with the major IT companies intending to set up shop. If the IT companies obtain the space early, then they can start operating in three months.As per the new deadline, the piling work is expected to get completed within 110 days. As the piling, construction work and landscaping work will be carried out simultaneously, the time taken for completion will considerably come down.The Union Government on January 18th this year, granted single SEZ status for the entire area and on 13th August, the project got permission for the construction of first building by the single window clearance board.
