Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation to Take Care of BDA Housing Colonies

BMCBhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) has decided to entrust the responsibility of development of infrastructure and other essential amenities of the three housing colonies to Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC). It will cover the three housing colonies of Kalinga Nagar (K-7 and K-8), Ananta Vihar (phase-I, II, and III) and Lingaraj Vihar which are developed by BDA.According to the official, the civic body has made an estimation of Rs. 30 crore for developing the infrastructure and basic amenities in this three housing colonies.Though the residents complained about the poor condition of housing colonies, BDA claimed that it had been looking after the housing colonies. According to the sources, on July 2nd, 2013, the housing and the Urban Development (H & UD) department had asked the civic body to take up the maintenance charges.BMC Mayor said that the civic body along with BDA team recently visited the three housing colonies developed by BDA and examined that the infrastructure condition of these colonies was very poor. Roads were damaged and the drains and street lights required to be improved to cater the needs of the dwellers. Proper maintenance is necessary. The mayor further said that they have arranged funds worth Rs. 30 crore for the development of these colonies. Rs. 10.47 crore will be used to develop Kalinga Nagar (K-7 and K-8), Rs 6.93 crore for the development of Ananta Vihar area and Rs. 4.07 crore will be invested in improvement of Lingaraj Vihar. There are in total 429 houses in Lingaraj Vihar that are developed by BDA.The residents had complained many times about the poor infrastructure and asked BDA to clean the drains.
