Delhi: The North Delhi Municipal Corporation has announced a positive news for the defaulters who have property tax arrears. Now they are allowed to pay the taxes and clear the arrears without being charged any penalty or interest. Tax worth crores is due to be recovered from thousands of citizens. Under a new settlement scheme, any citizen who has arrears will be immune to penalties and can pay the full amount till November 30.The scheme is projected to help both the citizens and the corporation. The idea of the scheme will motivate the defaulters meanwhile civic body will be able to recover the property tax. The scheme has already started from August 19 and continues till November 30. The chairman of the committee has declared that the information has been conveyed to all the property tax offices and advertisements have been published in most of the newspapers to aware the citizens.The necessity of this kind of scheme sparked from the feedback received by the corporation from the citizens. The officials found that the owners don’t have any difficulty in paying the property taxes but they are unhappy with the assessment orders passed against their properties. Much higher amount is also being levied than expected or calculated is also one of the reasons of not paying the tax.
