New Delhi: The 9th edition of the Conference on Real Estate was held on Monday 5th August at the CII’s Realty 2013. The conference was attended by eminent speakers from Mahindra Lifespaces, United Technologies Corporation, Wave Infratech, DLF Ltd, 3C’s, Walker, Chandiok & Co, SARE Homes, Ambience Group etc. Apart from these the conference was also attended by developers, constructors, builders, equipment manufacturers and various others related with the sector.Dr Girija Vyas, Minister of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation, who spoke at the conference emphasized on the importance of the real estate sector and said, “Real Estate has emerged as an increasingly strategic domain that influences various strata of society”.By 2030 the population of India is expected to reach 590 million. Of these millions will be living in the urban areas where 70% of the jobs will be generated. These jobs will in turn generate 70% of the country’s GDP. Therefore at present there is an enormous need for affordable housing for the urban poor. Dr Vyas applauded various government initiatives to this end such as the JNNURM, Rajiv Rinn Yojna, Rajiv Awas Yojna etc. The concession on development charges and service and direct tax exemption provided by these schemes has benefited the real estate sector.Jayant Davar, CII Chairman of the Northern Region also applauded the growth of the real estate sector and its significant contribution to the growth of GDP and creation of millions of jobs.Anil Kumar Misra, Secretary of Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation, also gave recognition to the real estate sector for the magnificent growth it has shown in the last 15 years. He said that transparency can be provided to the sector by the formation of a legal platform. To boost foreign direct investment (FDI) in the Real Estate Sector Misra suggested that the requirement built up should be reduced.Other promionent personalities who spoke at the conference were Anshuman Magazine , Chairman & Managing Director ,CBRE South Asia Pvt.
