Relocation Notice to 711 Families in Pune

wadasPune: Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has sent evacuation notices to around 711 families living in dilapidated structures in wadas across the city. Many years back, the civic body had conducted a survey of old and weak structures in which it has been found that there around 1,186 such properties in the city, mostly wadas. Most of them are located at Shaniwar Peth, Nana Peth, Kasba Peth, Budhwar Peth, Bhavani Peth and Narayan Peth. On the basis of their structural stability, the civic body officials have categorized the buildings as highly dangerous or dangerous.It’s been two years the demolition work is going on in wadas but it was never in a full swing. From last 3 months a special drive is undertaken by the PMC and around 49 wadas were already brought to debris. As the buildings are becoming dangerous for habitation, it is necessary to bring them down otherwise it will not take time for Pune to repeat Mumbai. Many of the people have been relocated already. Police complaints are getting registered against those who are still living in the dangerous-marked wadas.People fear leaving their homes because they believe if the wadas are demolished, they can’t claim their properties. However they can, as written in the eviction notice. Also the redevelopment proposals have been stuck in legal and policy matters for several years now.
