Vintage Residential Colonies to be Redeveloped in Delhi

redevelopment-delhiDelhi: The government is transforming the World War II-era residential colony at East Kidwai Nagar into a multi-storeyed residential tower. The cost of this redevelopment is estimated at Rs. 4,264 crore and it is the first of 30 government colonies situated across Delhi and spread over 1,100 hectares of real estate. This optimization of land by remodeling and redeveloping theses colonies will help to change the face of the capital.Kamal Nath, Urband development minister said, “This is a very important project which will harness the most efficient use of existing land in Delhi. The government will redevelop about 30 such projects to optimize land use by modernizing and redevelopment.”The project will include 7-14 storey blocks comprising about 4,609 residential units, 13 lakh sq ft of commercial area which will cover around 96 acres of land in the heart of the city. The project will be nearly self contained and will comprise modern facilities like power back-up, cycling and jogging track, shopping centers etc.Officials said that complex is designed on green specification and will be beautifully landscaped. The other government colonies which will be redeveloped are Sarojini Nagar, Srinivaspuri, Netaji Nagar, Mohammadpur and Ramakrishna Puram in South Delhi.According to National Buildings construction Corporation (NBCC) 331 housing units out of total 4609 dwelling units are leasable and will be given to the government or autonomous bodies or any public sector. Flats will be available at Rs 10,004 per sq ft which is much cheaper as compared to prices in the locality.
