Pune: The tax collected by the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) in the first three months of the current financial year has exceeded that of any other year for the same time period and it has amounted to Rs 144.48 crore.The amount of property tax collected this year so far has increased by Rs 32.22 crore as compared to the corresponding period in the previous year. This has been made possible as the civic body has appealed to the property owners to pay their tax on time and also announced that if the tax amount of the entire year will be paid in advance then they can avail the various concessions available for the advance payment. This was told by Bhanudas Gaikwad, Assistant Municipal Commissioner and Chief of the Property Tax Department.A total number of 1.62 crore property owners have availed the opportunity of paying the tax amount of the entire tear in advance. PCMC rewards a concession of 10% to residential property owners and of 5% to commercial property owners if they choose to pay the whole year’s property tax in advance. It is a logical step to take for many honest property tax payers as after all in a year’s time they will have to pay the entire sum anyway. However many people cannot dispose of the whole amount at once and hence do not avail the option.Failing to pay the property tax for the first six months within September 30 will incur a penalty of 2% of the tax amount per month.PCMC also provide 50% concession on property tax to women property holders, freedom fighters and ex-servicemen.
