Gateway SEZ on Sale: Shriram Property

shriram-gatewayChennai: In a move to pay off a debt of Rs 500 crore which was obtained from a real estate financing bank based in Germany in 2007, Shriram Properties is looking forward to sell Gateway SEZ, spreading in 1.3 million sq ft. The company is hoping to generate revenue around $150 million. For this deal, the company is planning to talk with global organizations like Ascendus and Mapletree. In the previous year, the deal was almost finalized with Singaporean Ascendus but got cancelled due to some internal issues.The Gateway SEZ includes 6 million sq ft of IT/ITES SEZ offices and 2.5 million sq ft of residential space. The SEZ is located near Tambaram in Chennai. Shriram Properties was established 18 years back and has ongoing projects in Chennai, Kolkata and Vizag. The company has large records of using private equity for funding purpose. Multiple investment companies have supported Shriram property in land purchases.The two companies to whom the deal will be taken are both high end companies. Mapletree is a $15 billion company that owns cluster of offices, industrial, residential, retail and mixed use properties and also works in logistics. It also owns an asset in Bangalore to add India in its portfolio. Whereas Ascendus is a company that majorly focus on tech-parks.
