MHADA, Cidco to Construct 10,500 Affordable Houses

MHADA-CIDCOMumbai: Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) and the City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra (Cidco) have decided to develop affordable homes in the next year. MHADA and Cidco will develop about 10,500 affordable houses by next year.Under this decision Cidco will create about 5,000 housing units and MHADA will create about 2793 homes in Virar and Konkan region in the next year. Number of houses to be constructed is very low compared to the actual need of the housing units.MHADA and Cidco work for the welfare of people by providing them affordable houses under the state government. MHADA has provided about 16,053 houses in their past five projects for which about 11.25 people had applied and for Cidco properties about 1 lakh people applied in their last project.Government authorities such as MHADA and Cidco can provide housing units at much lower prices compared to the market prices.Sachin Ahir, State Minister for Housing said that government will create at least 1 lakh housing units at affordable prices in next four years across the state. The state government is trying hard to create affordable houses.Experts have advised that MHADA should redevelop its colonies which can create more than lakhs of housing units. MHADA colonies and Cidco plots have a great opportunity to create thousands of affordable houses.
