Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to collect a fine from the people who were unable to pay their property taxes on time. The PMC will collect 2 per cent fine on the property tax dues starting from the 1st July.The press release from the PMC stated that the people who have pending payments will have to pay the fine of 2 percent charged on the property tax amount. Over 4.6 lakh people have paid the property tax till now in the new financial year 2013-14. The amount collected from the property tax was calculated to be around Rs 406 crore in this financial year.PMC officials said that the property tax is one of the main sources of the Pune Municipal Corporation’s revenue. The decision of collecting fine will benefit the PMC and will push people for paying their property taxes on time.The billing and collection of the property tax on residential properties, commercial properties and plots is handled by the property tax department under the PMC limits. The fine levied on property taxes will also be collected by the property tax department.Property tax is charged on immovable properties which include land, buildings etc. All property holders in the PMC’s jurisdiction are needed to pay these taxes to the PMC.
