Panaji: Goa Housing Board (GHB) has planned to build about 4000-5000 affordable housing units for the common man in the next two-three years. Real estate prices in Goa are skyrocketing and it has become difficult for the common man to purchase a housing unit or land in Goa.GHB’s decision to build affordable houses will provide some solace to the common man mostly people with limited incomes. The government blamed that the real estate developers and builders are charging more rates than what actual rates should be in Goa. The government’s decision will provide shelters to the people at reasonable rates.Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said that his government will provide housing units at reasonable rates through GHB. The GHB has planned to build 4000-5000 houses and flats and the construction will supposedly start by December.He also said that the cost of land with development is around Rs 25,000 per sq mts in most of the urban areas whereas builders and developers charge around Rs 50,000 per sq mts. He also warned that the government will not tolerate this nature from the developers and builders.Buying land anywhere in Goa is not a cheap deal anymore even in villages; land prices in developed urban areas like Panjim, Maargao, Mapusa, Vasco and Ponda for the residential as well as for commercial purposes have seen exponential growth.
