Ahmedabad: 60% increase in Residential Tax

property-tax-billThe largest city of Gujarat, Ahmedabad is going to witness a soaring rise in property tax from this September. Unlike the relaxed property tax bill last year, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has prepared the detailed list of the properties for the final bills that would be printed in Mid-July. The new property tax bill will be raised by 28% for commercial properties and 60% for residential properties.Apart from the raise, the AMC will also offer a rebate scheme for the advance tax payers. 10% rebate scheme will be provided for the people who pay their taxes in advance. This convenient scheme will be seeing a positive response. As the property tax would increase, people would rush to pay their taxes in advance.  Till now a collection of Rs. 174 crore has been recorded whereas last year, during April-May Rs. 134 crore has been recorded.The tax officials are targeting to generate an additional amount of Rs.260 Crore revenue by raising the property taxes. According to the Deputy Municipal Commissioner, since there is going to be an increase in property taxes, people have already started paying the taxes and they have already received payments from at least 8,000 taxpayers. In fact when the news of rebate scheme will spread, there will be more traffic of the taxpayers.  As compared to last year, an extra net amount of Rs. 38 crore has been collected till date.AMC earns 75% of its revenue from commercial properties and 25% from residential properties per year.
