Tamil Nadu Government Presented New Bill to Form Property Tax Board

chennai taxChennai: The Tamil Nadu government has decided to administer the way in which the property tax is assessed in the state by appointing Property Tax Board . Legislation has been presented on Monday in assembly regarding the creation of Tamil Nadu Property Tax Board (TNPTB) which will administer the assessment of the property tax. The initiative of the TNPTB will help state government to monitor performance grants for the local authorities.The 13th Finance Commission recommended for the setting up of the state property tax board which will assist urban local authorities to follow transparent procedure of the property tax assessment. The Tamil Nadu state Property Tax board Bill 2013 was pioneered by K P Munusamy, Law Courts and Prisons Minister.The main tasks which will be carried out by TNPTB would be itemization of properties that come under the municipal corporation and municipalities also it will examine the property tax assessment system and propose suitable methods for the procedure. TNPTB will also prepare and modify the rules and valuation techniques along with the periodic revisions.The bill produced does not declare any concerned authority which will monitor TNPTB, yet it gives power to The board to assist issues related to the tax assessment. The board will be set up under secretary level officials with the Municipal Administration Commissioner. It would also contain the three members which have the knowledge and experience regarding the property tax valuations and taxation.The TNPTB will be assigned to give the training to the municipality officials to handle the property tax assessments.
