Bhavnagar: Bhavnagar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to impose a new system for the payment of the property tax. The valuations of the property taxes will be made on the basis of the carpet area of the property. The new system will be applied from this financial year and the residents of the Bhavnagar will have to pay their property taxes depending on the carpet area of the property.The BMC did the survey of around 2 lakh properties in the year 2006 to 2008 and depending on the results of this survey, BMC decided to move onto the new property tax payment system. Most of the municipal corporations of the Gujarat have adopted this system of tax assessment except The Rajkot Municipal Corporation.In the past financial year, BMC had received the taxes worth Rs 32 crore and with the new tax assessment system BMC has predicted to receive the amount of Rs 40 crore in the current financial year. The application of the new system in the Bhavnagar Municipal Corporation is a part of the State Government’s agenda to have the uniform tax assessment system throughout the state.Dilip Dave, Deputy Municipal Commissioner said that Special notices cum bills will be sent to all the property owners. If the tax payer has no objection over the assessment then he or she can pay the taxes as applied. BMC will also consider the objections and suggestions from the taxpayers and those problems will be solved as early as possible by the assigned officers.These notices will be sent via special messenger assigned by the BMC to the respective tax payers. The time span will be minimized due to this decision of BMC and taxpayers can pay their taxes within the limit.
