37.73 mn sq ft was the office space consumption in the country in 2011. In 2012 it has been dragged down to 29 mn sq ft. According to Cushman and Wakefield, the total absorption is lowered by 23% in major cities across India. The reason figured out is that the businessmen fear from expanding their firms due to the global economic crisis.NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune, Kolkata and Ahmedabad are the 8 cities where the consumption is decreased in a greater extent. In reaction to the absorption lowering, the supply of office space also dropped by 10% at 35.30 m sq ft as against 39.35 m sq ft in 2011.The highest decrement is witnessed in Chennai, 51% low as compared to the previous year. Whereas Bangalore, where IT always flourishes, too stood unlucky with 24% drop. Coming to north, NCR had witnessed drop of about 12%.The slowdown can be blamed for this stabilization. However in business anything can happen. Sometimes it grows, sometimes it slows. What we can expect is that the coming year shall bring the hope of growth.
