Places to Visit in Dehradun

Dehradun – A city which is the State capital of Uttarakhand is located in Garhwal region to the north of Delhi. Also known as the Counter Magnets of the National Capital Region (NCR), Dehradun is located in the foothills of the Himalayas. Dehradun today is one of the well known cities of India which also happens to be a tourist hotspot. Following are some of the places to see in Dehradun: 

  • Sahastradhara:

As the name implies this is a water spring of a very low temperature and is known to possess remarkable medicinal values. The name literally translates to ‘thousand fold spring’ and attracts tourists from far off. This tourist hotspot is located at distance of 14km from Dehradun. The Sahastradhara is a feast for the eyes in the rainy season. The Baldi River is in close proximity to this spring.

  • Tapkeshwar Temple:

This is one of the oldest Temples of Dehradun dedicated to Lord Shiva. The Tapkeshwar Temple is in the form of a cave. It is located in the Garhi Cantonment area of Dehradun. The temple is built on the banks of a river from which water enters the temple to fall on the head of the Shiva Linga. The dripped water disappears and appears again in a furlong distance in the form of a small stream. Therefore the temple was named after this miraculous dripping water sight as Tapkeshwar.  The adjoining areas of the temple have an exquisite sulphur spring which is a delight for the tourists.

  • Chandrabani Temple:

The Chandrabani Temple is located on the Dehradun-Delhi, approximately 7 kms from Dehradun. The Gautam Kund which is also a noteworthy pilgrimage destination is located in close proximity to the Chandrabani Temple. The place around the temple is believed to be inhabited by the Great Sage Gautama Maharishi during the ancient times. Thousands of devotees throng this temple every day. This Temple is also a well known tourist location in Dehradun.

  • Malsi Deer Park:

The Malsi Deer Park is located at a distance of 10kms from Dehradun. This park is close by to the famous hill station of Mussoorie. It is a mini zoological park at the foothills of the Shivalik Range. Adjoining the zoo is a children’s park.  The environment of this park is well maintained. This park is the home to myriad Deer genes which come from across the world. Children find this park attractive for its close to nature surroundings.

  • Lachchiwala:

Lachchiwala is basically a forest land with lush greenery all around. This place is perfect for bird watching.  The river flowing amidst this forest is a must-see for tourists.Apart from these here are other tourists places to see in Dehradun:
