Ludhiana: Implementation of development plans is expected to kick start with the GIS mapping of the city. The Municipal Corporation will be testing hi-tech waters, with the launch of the Geographical Information System mapping, which will help determine the property tax dues. The size of the building, its location and precise measurement of the total land area will be evaluated using this Geographical Information Systems. This will also give a tip-off of the illegal encroachments and constructions, if any.
The basic idea behind giving a nod to this project is the quick assessment of property taxes. The remote sensing centres in the city will be responsible for the proper functioning of the GIS mapping. The Corporation will also get a helping hand from this process since it will allow effective implementation of further development plans proposed by the body. The first users of this mapping project will be the Municipal Corporation. Later on the information will be made available to the general public as well.
Data collection for this purpose is in full swing. Proper assessment of the property taxes will then become possible and easy as well. Work on this process is expected to be completed by this year end.
