Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation is implementing newer and fruit bearing strategies to recover property tax dues from the citizens. In accordance to this the PMC has formed 10 squads to recover the tax dues from the defaulters. Citizens who have not yet settled the property tax dues will have to inform the tax department in order to avoid unwanted consequences. If the warning is not taken seriously by the defaulters, stringent action will be taken against the defaulters in due course. Property taxes are charged on movable and immovable properties of an individual. Property tax is calculated based on the capital value system. The size of the property, type and other factors are taken into consideration before calculating the tax payable for a property. Street tax and service tax is also a part of the property tax which is chargeable to the owner of the property.Ensuring prompt payment of property taxes is supervised by the PMC’s Tax department. Property tax worth Rs.5 crore has been recovered by the PMC in the last few days.
