Panchgani – A Hill Station Known for Boardings and Health Centres

Thanks to the Sahyadri ranges in Maharashtra that has given the state the advantage to have beautiful tourist places naturally blessed all around. Panchgani is one of these places that definitely do not need any introduction. It is situated just 100 kilometres away from Pune district near the popular hill station Mahabaleshwar.  Now let me give a brief about Panchgani. It has got its name because it is situated in the middle of five hills of Sahyadri ranges. Panch means five and gani means hills, thus comes out to be Panchgani.   Panchgani also has five villages in the surrounding named Dandeghar, Khingar, Godwali, Amral and Taighat.   It comes under the district Satara in the state. As usual this place was also discovered and developed by British as they were always in search of hill stations that can serve them as the perfect place to live in summers. It was used to be the retirement place for British due to the favourable climatic conditions and naturally blessed surroundings. It is a place full of greenery, hilly mountains, natural water sources and perfect climate as the level of humidity is usually low in this region. The credit goes to John Chesson to develop this place into a serene hill station. He brought western plants and planted here to beautify the place and to bring the feeling of Europe. The idea worked and the valley is still flourishing with those plants and trees planted around 1860 to 1870. This place gets good monsoon almost for nine months but three months March, April and May are pleasant and dry. Temperature drops till 11 to 12 degree Celsius during winters while in summers it goes up till 34 degrees sometimes.Panchgani is quite famous for three things. One is being an education centre, second is health resort and the third is for its table land. There are approximately forty education institutes in small Panchgani. Some of them are really good and well known in the entire country while some are ok. Panchgani boarding schools are really good and give the children a perfect atmosphere to grow in discipline while studying. The perfect climate of Panchgani gives it the recognition as a healing place in the country that is the reason many heath resorts are being developed here. It can be called a Convalescence centre. The table land here is the second highest the entire Asia. It is the result of volcanic process under the earth. It is also called volcanic plateau. This plateau protects Panchgani from harsh weather. It is one of the main attractions in Panchgani. It is the shooting place for many bollywood movies due to its scenic surroundings and vast open flat land. You can see some caves which are said to be built and used by Pandvas from here. The Devil’s kitchen which is also called Bhima Chola is one of them. Some other visitors’ attraction in Panchgani includes Sidney point, Devil’s kitchen, Parsi point, Harrison’s valley, etc. all these points give you exclusive views of the exceptionally magnificent surroundings of Panchgani. If you love strawberries then you are at the perfect place. There are many farms of strawberries nearby to taste the mouth watering bright red strawberries. Do indulge yourself in strawberry breakfast, lunch and dinner.Apart from these famous tourist points there is a ganesh temple on the way to Wai. One can visit this place. There is a Tuberculosis Sanatorium which was founded by Dr. Rustomji Billimoria in the year 1940. Though Panchgani is well known for its perfect climatic conditions but recently it has been observed that like other hill stations in india Panchgani is also facing some environmental threats due to commercialisation, heavy tourist flow, tree cutting, new dams construction in the vicinity as well as pollution due to heavy traffic of vehicles of tourists. If the present state of affairs continues then Panchgani will no longer be a hill station.    It is sad that we cannot protect our environmental treasures that are being gifted by Mother Nature to us to expand not to diminish. We need to learn lessons from our past experiences and conserve our environment to maintain the ecological balance. There are regular buses available from Swargate bus stand to reach Panchgani otherwise driving in your own vehicle is not a bad idea. No shortage of restaurants and hotels from luxury to economy.Ruchi Mahajanзайм на карту без отказов круглосуточновзять кредит онлайн
