It is not a new place because it is said that the first person who discovered and visited Mahabaleshwar in the year 1215 was a king named Singhan from Deogiri. He was the person who first thought of using the great water source of River Krishna. He is the person who built the temple as well as a water tank on the River Krishna. It was rediscovered during the nineteenth century during British regime. As we all know British were always tried to find places that can help them to escape from extreme summers and thus Mahabaleshwar was established in the year 1829 as a health resort. It was actually the summer capital of Bombay Province during that time. The climate of this place was favourable and cool to make a perfect place for developing a health resort. It is situated on the Western Ghats in Maharashtra and is called “The Capital of Hill Stations” of Maharashtra. The main attraction of this place is the evergreen jungles that spread all over the valley make it the perfect destination for nature lovers. The cool climate attracts thousands of tourists during summer season.Mahabaleshwar is situated at a height of 1353 meters that is 4439 feet. The distance from Pune approximately 120 kilometres that is 75 miles away while Mumbai is 285 kilometres away. The highest peak of Mahabaleshwar is heighted about 4718 feet from sea level. This peak is called Sunrise point or Wilson point. This place is spread on a plateau which is 150 square kilometre. This plateau is surrounded by dense green cover. The big and famous Krishna River starts from Mahabaleshwar and passes through three states of country namely Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. The very interesting fact about the source of this River is the mouth of a statue of a cow. This statue is situated in an old temple of God Mahadev (Shankar) in the old Mahabaleshwar. Krishna is not the only rivers that starts from the cow’s mouth but there are four other rivers too that are called Koyana, Venna, Savitri and Gayatri respectively. These rivers start from the mouth but later merge into Krishna River. Isn’t it miraculously interesting?Apart from natural beauty Mahabaleshwar is also known for its holy shrine which is called Mahabaleshwar temple of Hindus. People come and worship Hindu God here. This place is very popular for its strawberry and honey production. Actually the climatic conditions are quite favourable for strawberries and mulberries and that is why you can enjoy mouth watering ripe clear red berries as well as you can visit the strawberry farms too. The Mapro factory that makes fruit jams and fruit drinks, is also on the way if you want to visit and buy the fruit products. A strawberry with cream is my favourite and you should also try it once.The Venna Lake is popular for boating in Mahabaleshwar and always catches good crowd.
