Energy is a word that shows the power or force to perform any activity. Electricity is also a form of energy. Can you imagine living without electricity for a day? You may find it deadly because you are so much dependent on power gadgets that without any of them your life seems to be lifeless. Energy has become God for us today without which we feel paralysed not only some of us but the entire city, state, nation and the entire world will be paralysed if this is the situation then we must value it and should take adequate steps to conserve this energy so that we and our coming generations can use it. By using some simple practical measures we can save a good amount of energy as well as the money spent on the bills of energy (electricity). If we see we will find that 30 percent of total energy consumption comes from domestic use and here is the scope to reduce the use of energy so as to conserve our scarce natural resources.Practical and simple tips to save energy1. Very well known tip is turn off the lights and fans when they are not in use or before leaving the room or home.2. In day time it is better to use natural light instead of electric lights. In a country like India one can get plenty of sunlight throughout the year so not a problem.3. While choosing paints one can select the shades keeping in mind the light factor. Light colours reflect max lights so they naturally brighten up your room.4. Focused lights are a better option instead of tube lights which lights the entire room and uses more electricity.5. LED lights are efficient in saving energy than ordinary bulbs.6. Remove dusts from light bulbs and tube lights to get complete light from them.7. Electronic regulators are better than standard regulators.8. When you buy an iron do see for auto off function which cuts power off automatically when reaches to a certain temperature.9. Right temperature for right clothes is recommended as it will help in overheating and burning of clothes.10. Too much water on clothes will absorb more heat thus require more energy to heat the iron which is not good. A little water spray is enough.11. While using microwave do not open the door often as it will drop the temperature and take more energy to maintain the temperature inside.12. Microwave ovens consume 50 percent less energy than gas stove.13. In case of refrigerator it is advised not to open the door too often as it will release the cold waves out and the temperature will increase inside and the compressor has to work more to maintain the desired temperature inside.14. Remove all the clutter like empty fridge bottles, empty containers, unnecessary items, stale food or vegetables, etc. from fridge as they also consume chill of refrigerator which is supposed to keep food fresh.15. Arrange the items in the refrigerator in such a fashion that it does not block coldness to get from top to bottom. Clean it regularly so that it can function properly.16. Defrost on a regular basis to save energy and load on machine.17. Whatever items you take out from fridge to cook, let them come to room temperature before cooking like vegetables, milk, etc.18. Cover the liquid items before refrigeration and avoid putting hot or warm items in freeze. Let them come on the room temperature before putting in freeze.19. Use pressure cooker as much as you can while cooking as a pressure cooker helps in fast cooking of food. Pressure cooker is an efficient device of kitchen.20. Always use lid for pans while cooking as it will save LPG usage.21. Use solar heating system instead of electric geyser.22. Solar cooker is also a very good option as the food cooked in it is not only nutritious but also saves plenty of energy and easy on pocket.23.Using moderate flame on an LPG stove saves unnecessary wastage of fuel.24. Switch off the television from main switch instead of power on mode as it consumes energy even though television is off.25. When the mobile is fully charged remove the charger from the plug to save electricity. Never charge your mobiles throughout the night.26. All chargeable items/ batteries should be plugged out when charged instead of leaving them as it as they are the culprits to consume more energy.27. Turn off your computer monitor when not in use as it consumes 50 percent of the complete systems energy.28. Sleep mode is best options for the digital equipments like computers, copiers, monitors, etc. It can save energy and costs up to 40 percent.29. If you wash clothes in a washing Machine then make sure it is fully loaded. For drying use natural sunlight instead of dryer as there is no shortage of sunlight in India. It is a better way to dry clothes and to make them germ free.30. Auto cut off mode should be preferred in air conditioners and the doors and windows should be closed properly in order to make cooling effective and fast along with saving energy.These are some very simple but practical tips and most of us know these very well but we do not care about it or just neglect them. It is not a good practice. The energy sources are getting scarce and we all are responsible equally. Let us do our bit to conserve energy and become an example for others.
