Tips for Electrical Safety in Indian Home

Today we see all households are having various electrical appliances and other electrical items like refrigerator, microwave, electric oven, mixer grinder, food processor, TV, air conditioner, computer, laptops, etc. All these items need electricity to work. Some of them work in normal voltage while others require high power supply to function. In India the power supply is quite uncertain as most of the cities having power cuts in the name of load shedding and when the power comes it is not stable as it fluctuates and the electrical items may not tolerate this voltage fluctuation resulting in break down or electric shock or may explode in some cases. Few months back when I was operating my electric oven to cook something i set it to preheat and just before I was reaching it to put the dish in the glass door explode and the next minute I found that very small pieces of glass were spread all over the kitchen floor. I was so shocked that I couldn’t move for few seconds. I was totally not able to understand what exactly just happened. Thanks to God I was not hurt at all. Later on I found out that the voltage fluctuation which is very common in our country is responsible for the incident. We cannot be fortunate enough every time we operate such devices and that is why it is really important to understand the electrical safety measures in our homes.Electrical safety means using all electrical appliances, devices carefully in order to avoid unforeseen situations like electrical fire or cardiac arrest, any other damage to human beings or appliances due to electrical fault. We do not know what will happen and when can it happen so it is better to take some precautions while using electrical items which can be fatal if there is an electrical fault in the wiring or the item itself. The electrical shock causes involuntary grip that prolongs the period of contact and the damage to the person depends on the period of contact and the person’s capability to bear such shocks.
