‘Need to Unlock Lands for Housing for All Scheme’ – JLL India

housing-for-allThe Indian branch of Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL), a globally recognized property consultant recently said that unlocking of lands is very much necessary to move ahead with the Prime Minister’s Housing for All Scheme. According to the property consultant the non-essential lands which are acquired by the state-operating units should be primarily released for the scheme.Immense efforts will be needed to recognize and outline such land parcels. Mostly the lands are owned by government bodies like Indian Railways, heavy industries department, port trust and ministry of public enterprises.The chairman of JLL India state that 20 billion homes are to be constructed to meet the Housing for All Scheme by the year 2022. There is a strong need to release the land, accelerate the approval process and form incentives for the participation of private sector in order to meet the housing within the estimated period.The housing scheme is specially introduced to provide shelter for the urban poor however the type the residential units, the government is aiming to offer seems doubtful if the lands remain unlocked.The scheme aims to offer affordable homes to the urban poor.
