Pune: No hike in property tax will be seen in PCMC locations for the period 2015-16 as the Standing Committee of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has turned down the plan for increase in the property tax. The standing committee strongly objected the proposal made by the civic administration regarding the raise in the property tax on the rateable cost of residential as well as commercial properties.With the hike in the tax rate, the civic administration anticipated to earn additional revenue of around Rs. 35 crore. Apart from additional property tax collection from residential and commercial properties, the administration planned to raise entertainment tax. According to the proposal, a new tax was also introduced for other properties, an exclusive cleanliness tax for malls, hotels, hospitals, function halls, canteens and lodging-boarding.The municipal corporation supposes that the Local Body Tax (LBT) is expected to be rejected from the next fiscal year. The administration in the period of 2014-15 is also anticipating a loss in earnings from property and water tax, local body tax and building permission fees. In the meantime, the standing committee also approved to provide. Rs. 12 crore to Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML), which is facing extremely shortage of cash.
