Finally, the Corporation of Chennai has uploaded the names of property tax defaulters in Chennai on its website. According to a report, property owners of malls, government structures and star hotels are the prime tax defaulters. As per a corporate official, top 195 property tax defaulters list was uploaded on the website while the remaining defaulters name will be revealed soon. He further said that probably the name and shame policy may increase tax collection. The main obstacle for recovering the dues was the delay in clearance of cases under the proceedings.According to the sources, owners of numerous huge buildings still underrate their property tax commitment and as a result pay lower property tax to the corporation. Government institutions like CMDA, police stations, Southern railway, magistrate court buildings, slum board dwelling zones and housing board colonies are the major defaulters.Despite of the law stating that property tax should be revised once in every 5 years, the city corporation hasn’t revised the property tax since 1998. The revision had stopped mainly because of the political pressure. The corporation started to upload the names of defaulters who had arrears more than Rs. 1 lakh in 2009 but due to the pressure from the defaulters, the drive was put on hold. After the expansion of the city, the number of tax payers increased from 6.5 lakh to 10.82 lakh but still the tax collection did not boost. The city corporation neither fined the defaulters nor offered incentives like cities Pune or Bangalore to the tax payers who made the payment before the deadline.займ на карту без отказов круглосуточновзять кредит онлайн
