PMC’s Property Tax Revenue Increased by 7- Fold

pune-taxPune: Currently, the civic administration of the city shared information about the tax collection with the cooperators where it was revealed that tax income of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has been increased by 7-fold. In 2003-04, the property tax department earned revenue of Rs. 111 crore whereas in 2013-14 the tax collection increased to Rs. 750 crore.As per the review conducted by PMC, property owners of over 7.5 lakh properties in Pune are accountable to pay property tax. These properties comprise of residential and commercial properties and open plots.According to the property tax department head of the municipal corporation, betterment in the tax recovery process is one of the main factors for the rise in revenue generation. Many of the properties were not under tax territory. However after conducting numerous drives in years together, by the civic body, all such properties are now taken into consideration.Excluding the period of 2007-08, where the overall tax income was decreased by Rs. 9 crore, the collection of property tax have gradually increased.  The Civic officials have stated that improvement in the recovery process and systematic distribution of bills are the main reasons for the rise in the tax collection. Previously, most of the property owners did not receive bills on time due to which they neglected the tax payment. PMC had recently introduced a new way to collect the tax by playing brass bands outside the properties of the default owners. This way the civic body collected dues of around Rs. 9 crore.
