Now majority of the citizens can get benefited from the property tax discounts offered by Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) for the payments made before 31st May, 2014 as the civic administration has decided to continue the operation of property tax payment service even on holidays. The citizens can pay the property tax on holidays too till 31st May.As per a press statement made by PMC, the property tax payers of Pune can make the payment through cheque in the ward offices or citizen facilitation centers. On holidays the service will be available from 10 am to 2 pm.According to the review presented by PMC, there are around 7.5 lakh property owners within the city who possess different types of properties like residential, commercial properties or open plots who are liable to pay the property tax. Out of the total count, over 6 lakh property owners have already paid the tax amount.The civic administration had declared to offer discount of around 5 to 10% to all the tax payers who pays their levy before 31st May. Even though the civic administration has initiated this scheme for the benefit of the citizens, property owners still find it burdensome to make the payment. The new city facilitation centers opened up by PMC does not seem to operate well hence the citizens, without any choice has to line up outside the ward offices. However PMC is making an effort to make the centers, functional.Property tax is the prime source of income for Municipal Corporation.
