The excess amount from the budget 2014-15 proposed by the deputy mayor of Kozhikode will be spent on the infrastructure improvement. According to the budget presented, the corporation would generate revenue of around Rs. 326. 67 crore, out of which Rs. 316.90 crore, will be spent on infrastructure development. The budget will be mainly focusing on resolving the parking space issue.According to the deputy mayor, the civic body will be developing a multi-level parking space at the corporation stadium. Apart from this it will also set-up parking space, four multiplex and food court around Palayam.One of the major highlights of this budget is that the corporation has decided to spend Rs. 1.5 crore for carrying out maintenance work of roads. The budget will also focus on reconstruction of footpaths in corporation zones. Drainage construction, walkways, setting up of LED lights, all this will be done within the budget of Rs. 1.40 crore.The budget is also planning to construct commercial towers in localities like Puthiyara, Areekkode, and Puthiyangadi. A mini convention centre will be put up at Elathur for which an amount of Rs. 30 lakh will be allotted. A mini seminar hall will be constructed at Eranhipalam and S K Pottekkad Cultural Centre, as per the proposed plan.The deputy mayor also said that the civic body will be coming up with a waste disposal plant. For the education sector, the budget will be setting up a multi-purpose hall at specific government school.
