Vadodara: The Union Ministry for Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation has given a nod for the construction of over 1800 housing units in Vadodara. Vadodara had created a detailed project report for the development of 1800 houses at Ektanagar under its vision of making city slum free. The detailed plan was submitted to the Central Sanctioning and monitoring Committee (CSMC) of the Central government and it has been approved by the committee under Rajiv Aawas Yojana (RAY)Ektanagar situated in Ajwa Road region is one of the biggest slum areas of the city, and many people are staying in this region in very unhealthy circumstances. Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) has created detailed DPR for the housing scheme proposed to be constructed at Ektanagar.VMC officials said that the region contains about 11 slum clusters which will be provided about 1856 housing units under the scheme of Vadodara Corporation. The overall construction cost of the project for this slum rehabilitation is estimated at a cost of Rs. 88.91 crore.Under this project, every resident will be provided a two room Kitchen house which will include a toilet, bathroom and a balcony with other basic amenities. Ektanagar currently has about 1763 families living in slum which will be accommodated in the scheme that will also have community center, RCC roads, streetlights, drainage system, water drain connections etc.VMC had also submitted another DPR for the development of 1448 housing units at Sahkarnagar.
