Over 45,000 Properties Still to be Reviewed by PCMC

PCMCPune: According to a report, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) of Pune is yet to assess 45,755 new properties. PCMC can earn a revenue of Rs. 50 to 55 crore by assessing these properties.The Municipal Commissioner said that PCMC has so far reviewed a total of 3, 80,312 properties and the remaining properties are expected to be assessed within 45 days. On the basis of a survey 45,755 properties are still to be assessed while some expansions were conducted in 35,306 properties which are also not taken into consideration for property tax. After the assessment gets completed, the civic body has a chance to increase its revenue by Rs. 50 to 55 crore per year.PCMC has been given a goal to acquire Rs. 350 crore as property tax by March 31st, 2014. Rs. 247 crore has already been collected by the civic body till December 2013. The commissioner has notified that the assessment should get completed within 45 days and before the end of this fiscal year, property tax bills should be sent to the property tax payers.The civic body can start collecting property tax on the day of assessment completion itself. The Municipal Commissioner further said that it is the responsibility of the property owners to get their properties assessed. It is important that PCMC raises its income target by 100 crore from property tax and Rs. 75 crore from building permission sectors.PCMC is also collecting double property tax from unauthorized properties that are constructed after January 2008.
