Shopping Malls to Grow More and Bigger in India

Shopping-malls-Malls in India are not only expected to grow in numbers but in size too as developers are planning to come up with retail projects that can accommodate more shoppers and offer numerous services to the customers all under one roof. According to a study by reputed property consultant company, Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL), from 380,000 sq ft, the average size of the mall in 2015 is expected to increase to 470,000 sq ft area.The total number of shopping malls across the prime cities in India is also increase by 25%. At present there are 76 million sq ft malls while in 2015, it will grow to 95.7 million sq ft. Currently, Mumbai and Delhi together, make up 62 % of total mall area in our country while Bangalore and Chennai, at second position account around 20% of the total space. The study revealed that the total mall space is likely to be more than 107 million sq ft by 2017.According to JLL, Delhi would be witnessing maximum total addition of mall space with 6.92 million sq ft area by 2014.  JLL’s Managing Director of retail services said that Mumbai and Delhi-NCR will be observing higher concentration of shopping malls among the top 7 cities.The net addition of mall spaces is likely to be around 24.9 million sq ft from 2013 to 2015. This year Chennai saw maximum number of new shopping malls followed by Mumbai and Pune.
