Bangalore: If you haven’t paid your property tax yet then just watch out as your valuables within your property premises may get seized to recover the dues. Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has come-up with distress warrants to recover the property tax dues from the defaulters. Distress warrants basically means to seize the movable properties of the tax defaulters.BBMP has already started with the drive and it resulted in payment of total amount of Rs. 15.25 lakh by three of the defaulters. BBMP warned these defaulters that it would blow them with the warrants by appealing Section 147 of Karnataka Municipal Council Act.The revenue officer of Shivaji Nagar said that if the defaulters understand their duty to pay the tax and pay the dues then its fine or else they have to take such vigorous step to recover the dues. Till now they have just threatened the defaulters but haven’t confiscated any movables. BBMP is ready to take police support, in case if any defaulter property causes problem of law and order.Defaulters had various reasons for not paying the tax. BBMP had set a target in 2013-14 to collect Rs. 1,800 crore. So far it has managed to incur Rs. 1,000 crore and the remaining amount it will try to collect within four months.According to the BBMP officials, the amount of property tax dues are escalating, the coffer of Civic Body is almost empty while the Palike have to pay the contractors, Rs. 1,600 crore and Rs. 3,000 crore to lenders.
