LIC Sent Notice to Unitech for Defaulting on Loan

unitech-groupMumbai: Unitech Group has defaulted on the payment of interest on Rs 200-crore loan which was taken from the Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) of India in 2007. The company has joined the list of companies which are struggling in the real estate market having liquidity issues in the country.The LIC has asked Unitech Group to pay the default amount as early as possible, Unitech official said that the Unitech will repay Rs 70-80 crore to LIC immediately and the remaining amount will be paid within the period of the next two weeks. Unitech also said that it had already paid an amount of Rs 100 crore to the LIC but LIC has not given any confirmation over the Unitech’s claim.Unitech had taken loans from LIC as well as LIC housing finance which was used for development of its properties in Noida, and Delhi which were held as collateral against the loan.Unitech has claimed that we can’t comment on specifics of the loan as per our confidentiality agreement with the lender. We assure that we will make sure that no loan amount will remain unpaid and we will work out with LIC on loan details.LIC officer confirming on the news said that Unitech has defaulted on the loan and LIC has already sent a notice to Unitech.
