Ahmedabad: Construction labourers have sent out a warning saying that they will stop work if their daily wages are increased to Rs. 500. In a convention held on Monday gave an opportunity for the labourers to put forth their demands for wage hike. The meeting came to a conclusion with the labourers drafting a charter demanding an increase in their daily wages.Also the charter held provisions for registering labourers and giving them an official identity. The workers are being asked to register themselves with different Welfare Boards and Construction Authorities. Analyzing the population of workers, it has been found that most of the workforce consists of migrants.Demands to provide them with ration at reasonable prices are yet another request put forth before the State Government. Proper sanitation and drinking water facilities should be made available to the workers. The convention had around 1000+ workers who attended the meeting with hopes of finding better work environment and social security. Other issues discussed in the convention include health care benefits, educational facilities and related concerns.A petition in this regard has been submitted to the Government.
