The biosphere is a museum completely dedicated to the environment, originally built in 1967 as a part of the World Fair Expo ‘67. The Montreal Biosphere is Canada’s very first water museum dedicated to the “the Great Lakes- St. Laurence Ecosystem”. The World Fair Expo ‘67 was the biggest expo showcasing numerous countries across the globe. Hence the United States decided to create this masterpiece as the UD pavilion for the Montreal expo ’67. Visionary architect Richard Buckminster Fuller was the inventor and creator of this marvelous wonder which was created in 1967.Initial StructureIn 1967, the American government had decided to contribute in the Montreal’s World Fair Expo ’67 as numerous countries would take part in the same expo. To make an impact in the exposition over global countries the government hired Richard Buckminster Fuller to design and create a unique pavilion for the country in the expo. Fuller was renowned for its huge and uncommon designs of domes, he designed a huge geodesic dome which was 200 feet high and had a diameter of 250 feet. The overall structure was constructed as a frame of steel which enclosed about 1900 molded acrylic panels. The dome used elaborate system of retractable shading screens which will control the heat inside the dome and these screens were also adjusted by computer according to the direction of the sun’s rays.At Expo ’67, biosphere became the major attraction inviting about 5.3 million people during the expo. The biosphere was the brainchild of the fuller originated through his immense knowledge of art and philosophy. The pavilion later donated to the city of Montreal in 1968, which suffered a huge fire in may 1976 destroying the acrylic shell of the structure, although the skeleton of the structure remained untouched.Present StructureThe structure further remained unrepaired for about 15 years and the access to the structure was banned by the city of Montreal during this period. In 1992, Environment Canada bought the structure with a plan to dedicate the structure as a museum devoted to the eco-action and studying. The whole structure was redesigned by architect Eric Gauthier who restructured the design keeping original plans intact. After the completion of the structure in 1995, the structure was completely dedicated to the environmental themes such as climate warning and H2O variations.
Inside the BiosphereThe biosphere is currently used as the environmental museum, which gives a treat for all the viewers exhibiting huge amount of interactive displays, movies. The museum highlights the importance of the Great Lakes- St Laurence River watershed and tries to educate visitors with immense knowledge of the environment. The museum was inaugurated as water museum in 1995.The Montreal Biosphere remained a masterpiece in the architectural world since its inception in 1967 during the Expo ’67. The structure was rebuilt from the ashes after the huge fire mishap in 1976 and it is still a gem of the Montreal’s skyline giving a rich look to the river side in the city. The Montreal biosphere is a great example of the structure combining the contemporary architecture with original plans and designs. The Montreal Biosphere is one of the world famous tourist attractions in the world which attract millions of tourists to the city. займ на карту без отказов круглосуточновзять кредит онлайн
