PMC to Inspect 50K Residential Properties to Increase Tax Revenue

pune-pashanPune: The civic administration is trying to increase its property tax revenue by Rs 50 crore by changing about 50000 residential properties into commercial properties. The screening of such properties will start from November under which the use of properties will be changed to commercial from its previous residential purpose use.Rajendra Jagatap, additional commissioner of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) said that the screening process will be carried out in a month’s period starting from Mid-November to December 31. The special teams will be appointed for each and every panel which will be distinguished according to areas of the city. These panels will scrutinize residential properties situated in respective wards and will submit a report to the civic administration.According to the civic administration about 76 teams will be constituted for the complete drive, one team for each panel. Every team will have two members, a security officer and security personnel who will check the commercial activity in the house and whether owner is paying property tax accordingly or not. Owners using properties for business purposes will have to pay commercial property tax instead of residential property tax.The inspection teams will also check whether properties have any additional construction within the residential area. If any broken rules found the owners will be fined accordingly and will have to pay the fine to the civic administration. The civic body aims to achieve Pune property tax collection of Rs 750 crore till the March end.
