Navi Mumbai Realty Slumps due to Delays in Airport Construction

navi-mumbaiNavi Mumbai: The proposed international airport in Navi Mumbai is facing delay in completion of its first phase. This delay in the construction of the airport has slumped the real estate market of Navi Mumbai and its adjacent areas. Many developers and builders had launched their projects to cash-in on the proposed international airport but the delay is causing plummeting sales.30 per cent of the ready-to-move-in apartments in various housing complexes are vacant owing to the scarcity of end-users. Jones Lang LaSalle reported that the inventory in Navi Mumbai has increased to 27,216 units in the current year which was 16,300 in 2011.The airport construction delays have affected the infrastructure development in the town. The adjacent areas like Ulwe does not even have the basic infrastructure developments. Along with less infrastructure, lack of connectivity is also the reason which fearing the prospective home buyers in Navi Mumbai.The expected improvement in the connectivity and infrastructure will come after two or three years when the airport completely establishes. City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra said that the first phase of the airport is projected to go operational by 2017, though the initial deadline given earlier was 2014.The ongoing projects which are offering under construction apartments with future possession dates are on high demand in the Navi Mumbai market.
