Citizens Panic due to Tax Payment System Failure

BMCMumbai: Tax collection system of the BMC has been down since a week. The citizens of Mumbai are highly disappointed due to the system failure as the property tax payment deadline is just 15 days away. The imminent deadline for the tax payments has made Mumbai citizens very anxious and people are demanding that the BMC should extend the deadline for payment.Payment system crash has made it impossible handle the load of applications for collection, calculation along with complaint redressal and has majorly affected the bill payments at various citizen Facilitation Centers (CFCs).BMC has recently adapted a new property tax system due to which the MBC stopped the online payment procedures. Payments through CFCs across the Mumbai was the only option for citizens for the payment of property taxes, but with payment system down, CFCs across 24 wards are currently not in the functional mode.BMC has set a deadline of 30th September for the payment of property tax across the city and many citizens are worried they might be penalized due to the delay in the payments.According to the new capital value system, BMC has sent bills to about 2.8 properties across the Mumbai. First set was issued in January and another set of bills was sent in June which stated the deadline for the payment as September 30, 2013.The civic officials while answering the citizens said that the system has stopped accepting the payment information and generating receipts following the software failure and the server glitch.
