Goa Authority Inspecting Coastal Lands Allotted to Shacks

goa-shacksPanaji: The Goa state government has certain Coastal Regulation Zones (CRZ) rules which need to be followed on the coastal areas of the city. The cabinet recently approved a policy for the beach shacks in Goa along with few allotments in Goa coastal region. The tourism department will allot these shacks according to the CRZ authority sanctions for the tourism policy.The Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) has decided to physically scrutinize the earmarked spaces for the allotment of beach shacks and will ensure that no CRZ regulations must be violated by these land allotments in the coastal regions. The authority has started site inspection process which will be completed by the end of this week. The authority will inspect the coastal zones district wise one after one.The rules of CRZ are made to secure the coastal degradation of the coastal region in the Goa state and are strictly imposed on the state coastal line. The proper management of coastal land according to the CRZ regulation helps to improve the coastal land degradation and to maintain the coastal regions clean for the tourists.Many shack owners’ groups have welcomes the tourism policy and inspection of the CRZ authority but they suggested certain changes in the rules. Shack Owners Welfare Society (SOWS) asked authority to increase the number of shack allotted at Sauntavddo, Calangute coastal regions. A memorandum was submitted by the group to the chief minister of Goa, Manihar Parrikar.Under the tourism department’s policy, 60 per cent shacks will be allotted to the vendors who have seven years and above experience for a period of three years and 20 percent will be given to four year experienced vendor for the period of six years.
