NGT Orders Authorities to Issue Notices to Realtors

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has filed various cases regarding the construction work going around Okhla Bird Sanctuary and groundwater extraction at various construction sites. The realtors flouting the groundwater extraction ban will be given notices from the Noida Authority.Following the meeting held on August 22  the Green Tribunal ordered the Noida and Greater Noida Authorities along with the Central Ground Water Authority to submit a report telling the exact amount of wastage of groundwater in building construction. The authorities have to submit the report on the September 9 to the National Green Tribunal.The authority officials said that they have issued notices to the realtors who are carrying out constructions via groundwater extraction. The NGT has banned ground water extraction for the use of construction as it results in wastage of groundwater. Several realtors have submitted their groundwater usage figures to the authorities. The authorities will prepare a detailed report about the wastage of groundwater in the city.The NGT had banned the groundwater extraction which is used in the real estate sector for the construction of buildings saying that they are using too much amount of groundwater which can result in the decrease of groundwater level in the city. The groundwater is the main source for the Noida city which can be used by the citizens.Realtors blamed the local authorities saying that authorities have failed to conserve and plan for groundwater usage. The builders are made to haul for the ground water usage along with the construction around the sanctuary.
