Nashik: Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has ordered town planning department to start collecting local body tax (LBT) from Builders and developers in the city. Decision of collecting LBT from builders and developers was taken by the local body tax department of the Nashik Municipal Corporation.Builders and developers will need to pay 50 per cent of the total LBT levied on the construction while taking the permission of construction from the NMC and rest 50 percent of the total LBT must be paid while getting completion certificate of buildings.The charged LBT will be calculated including construction areas of balcony, stilt floor, basement, parking and compound area of the building along with the actual saleable area of the building. The town planning department of NMC has already issued a circular mentioning all the guidelines regarding the LBT for building constructions.The LBT rules cleared out that the tax charged will be Rs 100 for each square meter for the buildings having up to the four floors, Rs 150 per square meter for the buildings rising up to seven floors and for the buildings which have more than seven floors charge will be Rs 200 per square meter. Town planning officials said that developers and builders in Nashik will be informed about the LBT and the tax will be collected accordingly as per the rules mentioned in the issued circular. The civic body has already taken action against several businessmen and traders for LBT evasion through collecting a fine of Rs 6.21 lakh for avoiding the LBT norms in various forms.The LBT replaced octroi collection and came into force from May 22, 2013.
