Surat: The Gujarat government had launched provision to regularize unauthorized properties under the Gujarat Regularization of Unauthorized Development Act. Under this provision, more than 2.47 lakh property owners have submitted their applications to Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC). August 26, 2013 is the last date for the submission of applications in the SMC and it is predicted that number of applications will reach 2.70-lakh mark by Monday.The SMC had launched a campaign to spread awareness in property owners about authorizing their properties. Applications submitted by owners are the result of this awareness campaign which worked massively in favor of SMC.Manish Doctor, town development officer said that the SMC will have to allot special team for scrutinizing applications received from the property owners. He also added that they will have to employ extra staff on a contract basis to complete the regularization task on time.The properties which will be liable for the demolishing under the provisions of the Development act will be given notices before it and properties of applicants will not be demolished unless they are liable according to the rules. SMC will demolish structure constructed on road, reserved land and on water bodies.The Town Planning Department has completed the examination of about 10,000 applications and very soon it will complete the whole process.
